The Lee County School Board has approved the sale of the Lee County School District license plate. The school district will have to pre order 300 at $31 each in order for the tags to go into production. ($24 of the $31 will go back to the school district.) The
Jennifer Rooker Memorial Grant to recognize an outstanding teacher in the school district.
A select group of Lee County School District teachers are in a 30 hours comprehensive multi-sensory education training this week with presenter Michele Wenger from Cincinnati, OH. The daily training began on Monday, August 25 (8:00 am – 3:30 pm) and will end on Friday, August 29.
6th Grade Thematic Unit Planning
Leslie Iverson and AK Farris, Title I Lead Teachers, spent 2 days training the district’s K-5 SPED teachers. Teachers were highly engaged and very ‘hands-on” while learning how to implement multi-sensory approaches for teaching phonics using various activities and manipulatives. Reaching Reading Success, the district’s Title I pull-out program, uses these Orton-Gillingham techniques to teach reading and spelling to students.
Administrators, teachers and other staff of the Lee County School District are involved in professional development beginning Thursday, July 31, 2014, and ending Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
The Friday, August 1 session was a district-wide orientation session. The orientation session was held at The Summit, 852 North Gloster Street, Tupelo, MS, and featured Tyson Lee, former standout quarterback for Mississippi State University, as the keynote speaker. Tyson is currently working with the Fellow of Christian Athletes organization at Mississippi State as the organization's figure for the football team.
Lee County School District has partnered with Kelly Educational Staffing (KES) for our substitute teacher needs beginning September 22, 2014. KES will handle all the aspects of our substitute teacher program including hiring, training and scheduling. There are several advantages to this partnership such as the opportunity for substitute employees to have year-round employment and additional incentives exclusive to employment with KES.
