INTELLECTUALLY GIFTED OVERVIEW

The philosophy of the Lee County School District Intellectually Gifted program is to enrich individuals who demonstrate intellectual giftedness. The program is designed to prepare these students to be motivated, critical thinkers, problem solvers, life long learners, respectful of individual uniqueness and worth, technologically knowledgeable, and prepared to meet the challenges of society through innovative, comprehensive learning experiences inclusive of the unique resources of the community.

Discovery Class is an enrichment program for intellectually gifted students in second through eighth grade. Because of the abilities of gifted students, we pursue activities that go beyond the normal classroom activity by offering the students greater latitude of inquiry. The students' intellect is challenged by providing them with a diversity of learning experiences, including instructional methods, materials, and activities.

Discovery Class focuses on developing skills in the following areas:
Communication
Thinking Skills
Research
Group Dynamics
Self-directed Learning
Socio-Emotional
