Saltillo Primary School teacher Anna Mayo has been named the Lee County School District Teacher of the Year!

Superintendent Coke Magee recently shared the exciting news with Mrs. Mayo and her kindergarten class.

Mrs. Mayo has taught at Saltillo Primary since 2009. When asked about her teaching philosophy, Mrs. Mayo said, in part, "To help students reach their full potential, it is vital to build a classroom community and learning environment where all students no matter their race, background, or economic status, feel included, valued, respected, safe, and above all, loved."

Congratulations, Mrs. Anna Mayo!
"Firemen are our friends" is how student Jace Ferguson described what he learned from a fun contest held at this school.

The Saltillo Fire Department asked students to draw posters about fire safety and prevention for a chance to win great prizes. Two students, second grader Jace Ferguson and kindergartener Drew Kyle, captured first place honors that included a bicycle for each from the fire department!

Saltillo Fire Chief Mark Nowell says it's important for young people to understand the dangers of fire, how to react if they're ever in a fire, and the important role of firefighters in our communities. This contest was held the week of October 9 as part of Fire Prevention Week, which has been observed nationally for 100 years.
All six LCSD elementary schools, including ours, have artwork featured in the second annual Mississippi Art Education Association's Online Elementary Art Exhibition.
