Shannon Primary School is located on Highway 45 South in Shannon. The school serves students in kindergarten through second grade. The staff is composed of 25 certified personnel, 23 non certified personnel, a part time Region III therapist, and a teacher who works with students that exhibit dyslexic characteristics.
Our focus is on academic success and social growth while helping our students discover the joy of learning. SPS uses continued teacher development, technology, and hands-on research-based learning strategies.
Our motto is simple: Ensuring that every Child is a Reader…
The school also benefits greatly from an active Parent Teacher Organization and local community involvement. To promote health and wellness of the students and faculty, Shannon Primary has a quarter-mile walking track. This was made possible by a parent who applied for and received a grant from the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. The students voted to name the track, “Little Raider Road.”
The “Don Christian Outdoor Discovery Classroom” is named in honor of former principal and longtime Red Raider teacher and coach Don Christian. This unique classroom provides students with opportunities throughout the year to explore the Discovery classroom, conduct experiments, identify with nature, and investigate aspects of the outdoors.
