Shannon High seniors and early graduates participated in a "real world" budgeting challenge hosted by Cassandra Weston-Hansworth from the MSU Extension Service.
Students were assigned random careers with different family dynamics. They made their way through various "expense" stations, with the goal of finishing the month with money left over. If they ran into problems, a "second job" was offered.
Career Coach Dee Coleman says many students voiced their shock at the price of groceries, child care, and just the overall cost of living. He says this activity showed students why having a good job, with some form of training and education, is so important.
